Who is this for?

This is for dogs and handlers with no previous experience in scent work. If your dog is already trained on an odour, check out our other services instead.

How long is the session?

Each session is 2 hours long.

Are there any restrictions?

Dogs will be worked individually, meaning that your dog must be able to safely wait in the car without becoming distressed until it is their turn (unless you are attending a private session).

If your dog has any food allergies or behaviour concerns please advise of this when filling in your booking form.

Dogs with any contagious diseases or bitches in season are NOT permitted to attend. If you have already booked a session when symptoms develop, please get in touch to discuss transferring to another date.

Exempt banned breeds are welcome at Scent Quest, but please get in touch prior to booking as not all of the venues we use are insured for allowing this.

What do I need to bring?

Please make sure you have some of your dog's favourite treats (particularly if they have food allergies), poo bags, a flat or rope style lead (i.e. not a "flexi" or "extendable" one), water bowl for your dog while they are in the car, and of course your best detective skills!

How many dogs are there in each session?

Each session will have a maximum of three dogs.

Private sessions for just you and your dog are also available.

If you have a group of friends with dogs that would all like to take part together (even if it's more or fewer than four), just get in touch and we can discuss how we can make this happen.

What should I expect?

You and your dog will be working together using your dog's incredible sense of smell to find clues to solve a mystery. At the start of the session, you will learn about the "seeking system" in dogs and how humans have utilized it in training detection dogs. You'll also learn to interpret your dog's body language during searches, enhancing your teamwork as detective partners.

Next, your dog will enter the "crime scene" to familiarise themselves with the scent of our elusive perpetrator (who just happens to smell exactly like cheese and hot dogs...!). Together, you'll comb through evidence, identifying items relevant to the case and deciphering any codes necessary to crack the puzzles.

It's important to note that dogs are worked individually in scent work sessions. Therefore, your dog will need to wait safely in the car without becoming distressed until it's their turn to participate.

How much does a session cost?

Each session is £35.

Can you run a private taster session for me or my group?

Yes, if you have a group of friends with dogs that all want to take part, please get in touch and we can organise a private session for you all to take part together. (Same for weekly clubs, workshops, etc).

Additionally, individual private taster sessions are available to book on the booking page.
